  • ‘AJ’s about to be sent to the shadow realm’ – Oleksandr Usyk looks massive in new training clip with under two weeks to go until Anthony Joshua rematch
by Michael Benson on August 8, 2022 at 10:10 am

Oleksandr Usyk has uploaded a brief training clip showing he is now a true heavyweight ahead of his upcoming rematch with Anthony Joshua. The former undisputed cruiserweight king shocked a big portion of the boxing world by dethroning AJ last year and the pair will now meet again on August 20, live on talkSPORT. Usyk is indeed looking like a true heavyweight nowOleksandr Usyk - TwitterAhead of the rematch, there has been a fair amount of speculation about Usyk’s size. The Ukrainian has been training in Dubai and appears to have put on additional weight. When he first came up from cruiserweight, not many believed he would be able to emulate Evander Holyfield and David Haye by jumping up into boxing’s biggest division and winning a world title. However, Usyk proved the doubters wrong once in his first fight with AJ and is now in prime condition to do the same again. On Sunday, he posted a brief clip of himself looking very big in final preparations. Toughest fight of AJ’s career even including a Fury fight if that ever happens.” Another added: “Sheesh man, he’s looking huge. He’s 100 per cent stopping Joshua this time.” A third fan said: “He’s looking big there. Bigger in fact. He’s coming for the KO I reckon.” A bold prediction was made by one commenter who wrote: “Have a feeling AJ’s about to be sent to the shadow realm.” While another agreed: “This guy is about to destroy Joshua and put him into retirement.” Usyk vs Joshua 2 on talkSPORT talkSPORT will be in Jeddah for the Oleksandr Usyk vs Anthony Joshua rematch on 20 August. • Frenkie de Jong transfer news – odds: Chelsea strong favourites to sign midfielder as Barcelona now 5/2
by Tom Lunn on August 8, 2022 at 10:10 am

Frenkie De Jong has been linked with a move away from Barcelona since the start of the transfer window but into August he’s still no closer to signing a deal. Manchester United looked set to scoop the Dutch star but now they are competing with Chelsea and Barcelona, who are keen to keep hold of their key player. De Jong could be on his way out of SpainGettySKY BET – Bet £10 Get £30 in Free Bets* United agreed terms according to Fabrizio Romano, back in July but crucially the personal terms still needed to be ironed out. But news emerged of financial difficulties concerning Barcelona paying his wages have also thrown a spanner in the works to the transfer. And much like the majority of big transfers, Chelsea have emerged as a key contender in the talks and are now the 6/5 favourites according to Sky Bet. De Jong broke through the Ajax squad and became a first-team regular in 2018. He played an integral part in securing the domestic double and their unprecedented success in the Champions League reaching the semi-finals. At 25-years-old he could make a great addition to the Premier League. Part of Barcelona’s terms with Man United last month were for the club to ‘financially contribute’ to de Jong’s unpaid wages and as such, if any transfer is secured this this will play a big part. Frenkie de Jong – Club After Summer Transfer Window Odds Chelsea: 6/5Barcelona: 5/2Manchester United: 7/2PSG: 10/1Bayern Munich: 33/1Liverpool: 50/1To add to the transfer saga Barcelona have also been banned from registering their new transfers, including Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and Jules Kounde. That is of course until they reduce their financial outgoings and balance their books, which could be helped dramatically if securing a deal for De Jong. • Erling Haaland’s funny post-match interviews show it’s not just his goals that will light up the Premier League as striker swears twice on live TV after opening Man City account
by Jackson Cole on August 8, 2022 at 10:00 am

Defences in England will be worried about the prospect of coming up against Erling Haaland this season, and so may a few post-match reporters. The striker kicked off his Manchester City career in style on the opening weekend of the Premier League season, scoring two at West Ham. Haaland’s first league goal saw him bring out his meditation celebrationAFPAnd he was so happy he forgot you couldn’t swear on telly!sky sportsHe was superb on the pitch in east London and had fans in stitches off it as he sworn twice in his post-match interview. And it’s not the first time Haaland has had us laughing after games… Before joining Borussia Dortmund in January 2020, Haaland plied his trade at Red Bull Salzburg. It was his exploits for the Austrian side in the 2019/20 Champions League which made Europe’s elite really sit up and take notice of him. After scoring a stunning first-half hat-trick against Belgian side Genk in September 2019, Haaland cut a somewhat restrained figure with his post-match chat revealing his very, very, very dry sense of humour. Reporter: You made history scoring your first-half hat-trick, how are you feeling right now? Haaland: I feel very good. Haaland certainly kept his emotions in check after the fast hat-trickAFP Most read in Football funny Ex-Liverpool star bites back as Fulham make cheeky dig at Klopp's excuse for draw oops! Haaland: You asked how I feel, I answered. Reporter: What’s the secret? You’ve got 17 goals in nine games this season so far. Haaland: To work hard. Reporter: You go to Liverpool in two weeks’ time, your father [Alfe-Inge Haaland] scored at Anfield in 1997, are you hoping to follow suit? Haaland: I hope so. He’s a much more seasoned interviewee these days, so much so that he’s ready for the most unexpected question. He wasn’t fazed by a very odd questionCBS SportsAfter netting a brace in Dortmund’s 3-0 win over Club Brugge in November 2020, Haaland was seemingly asked a very bizarre question about his private life. The CBS journalist asked: “Are you going to sleep lonely tonight?” Haaland replied: “Erm… yeah.” The interviewer then said: “You’re not taking a girlfriend home right now, you didn’t score a hat-trick.” The striker responded: “Didn’t score, no.” Reporters in England will be kept on their toes by HaalandgettyIt later became clear that the reason for the interviewer’s strange questioning is because Haaland revealed he sleeps alongside his hat-trick match balls – which he describes as his ‘girlfriends’ – in November 2019. “I sleep with the five balls for each hat-trick I have scored,” he said. “I lie in bed and I feel good with them. “I look at them every day. They are my girlfriends.” The British media have already enjoyed their first taste of a Haaland interview… Haaland wasted no time to get off the markGettyThe 22-year-old got his life in the Premier League off to a flying start over the weekend, netting a penalty and later slotting past West Ham’s substitute keeper Alphonse Areola in his side’s 2-0 opening game win. But he could have had more. When asked about the chance that could have landed him a hat-trick, Haaland said: “Yeah I could’ve. If you saw, I could’ve right before I went off, I should’ve been there, so. “Bit s***, but that’s how it is.” After a few seconds of silence, the Norway international was clearly unaware he’d just sworn and he was apologetic when his interviewer politely reminded him not to swear. “Oh sorry, s***.” he said, before putting his hand to his mouth and apologising again. “Oh sorry! Not good language in this country!” he laughed.
