Simon Jordan was not impressed with the latest banner unveiled by Manchester United fans at Old Trafford.

Amid the club’s ongoing struggles, supporters delivered a message demanding better from Ralf Rangnick’s side during an underwhelming 1-0 victory over Aston Villa on Monday night.

With the faces of famous captains Bryan Robson, Eric Cantona, and Roy Keane, the sign read: ‘Standards’.

However, ex-Crystal Palace owner Jordan questions whether the likes of Keane are, in fact, the right example for United’s misfiring stars.

All three played under legendary Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson, who Jordan insists was the man responsible for enforcing standards, rather than the players.

He points towards Keane’s questionable record as a manager at Sunderland and Ipswich to argue his case.

Jordan told talkSPORT: “What were Roy Keane’s standards like when he was a manager? Come on now.

“We’re talking about the management. Keane, the player, played for the ultimate manager.

“The ultimate manager that enforced standards!

“He [Sir Alex] could’ve had Andy Capp alongside him in the dugout as his No.2 because he was the the ultimate manager.”

Rangnick has failed to inspire one convincing performance since his arrival as interim manager – and Arsenal legend Perry Groves believes United are going backwards under the German.

Questions continue to be asked of Rangnick

Questions continue to be asked of Rangnick

“I actually think in the seven games under Ralf Rangnick there has been no improvement at all,” he told the Sports Bar.

“They’ve probably gone backwards.

“They had more progression under Michael Carrick in the three games that he had.

“He made big decisions, leaving out [Bruno] Fernandes and [Cristiano] Ronaldo.

“I’m wondering if Man United are looking in despair because this is a talented team.”
